When we were children

This tactile work was created by the Art Group at Eastbourne Blind Society in collaboration with textile artist Solveigh Goett. What started with making a few pompoms in between projects, soon grew into a project of its own when people started bringing in ever bigger pompoms that they had made at home. I decided to join them all together in a large tactile picture, where textures, shapes and spaces can be explored through touch.

All the members of the art group are visually impaired, most of them are elderly. Making the pompoms brought back childhood memories - of warm feelings, hidden spaces, games and surprises.

I entered the piece into a nationwide tactile art competition - unfortunately it was not selected for the exhibition.

'When we were children' is currently at home at the Eastbourne Blind Society - but would be pleased to be invited to tactile art exhibitions and enjoyed by a larger audience.

Where are they now? In search of stolen art work

These textile works were stolen from a gallery in Tunbridge Wells in 2001. Some of them had never been shown before. They took many hours to make. They bear the traces of my hands, of memories and the time of their making. A bit of me has disappeared and I still feel the sadness. Has anybody seen these works? Where are they now? Will I ever be able to see and touch them again?

Some of the stolen work had not yet been photographed, and some of the existing images are only snapshots. But someone out there might recognize them.

Re-opening the Case - where are these works?

In the autumn of 2001, twenty seven textile works of mine were stolen from a gallery in The Pantiles in Tunbridge Wells. The works, with a total value of over £6000 had been stored in the gallery for a forthcoming exhibition which never happened. There was no forced entry, therefore the insurance did not pay. The gallery owner shortly afterwards declared bankruptcy. The police investigated, but the work was never found. Neither did I receive any compensation.
